If you’ve ever packed a toddler lunch only to watch it come right back untouched, you’re not alone. Toddlers are tiny humans with big opinions, and feeding them can sometimes feel like a full-time job. Especially since you can’t pack the easy favorite, Pb&j. That’s why I’ve put together a week’s worth of easy, nutritious, and toddler-approved lunch ideas that require minimal prep and deliver maximum success (aka fewer leftovers and happier mealtimes!).
These meals work great for at home, daycare, or preschool, and they’re flexible enough to swap ingredients based on what your little one loves most. We use the little bento box lunchboxes for these to keep it simple, but whatever you have will work.
Monday: Turkey & Cheese Roll-Ups
Main: Whole wheat turkey and cheese roll-ups (rolled and sliced into bite-size “pinwheels”)
Sides: Sliced cucumbers + strawberries
Bonus: Mini pretzels or a few animal crackers
Tips: You can do these one of two ways, use a whole wheat tortilla, or you can use a rolling pin to roll out some wheat sandwich bread to make it thin and easy to roll up.
On the cucumber slices, my daughter loves them sprinkled with a little ranch seasoning.
You can also use a cookie cutter to cut out the sandwiches into fun shapes instead of making them into roll-ups.
Tuesday: DIY Snack Lunch
Main: A little bit of everything, think of it as a toddler “charcuterie” box.
Ideas: Cheese slices, crackers, ham or turkey squares, cherry tomatoes (quartered), blueberries, and a few puffs or veggie straws
Tips: This is great for picky days because it gives your toddler choices and variety
Let them choose what goes into their lunchbox with this. Let them pick a fruit, a veggie, a meat, a dairy, and a bread item. It’s fun for them and you know they will eat it.
Wednesday: Mini Pasta Lunch
Main: Small pasta (like elbow or bowtie) tossed with butter, olive oil, or mild marinara
Sides: carrot chips or steamed broccoli + sliced peaches or apples.
Tips: you can switch the pasta out for mini ravioli or tortellini.
For a cold pasta lunch make a pasta salad. Add in veggies, cheese, and sliced pepperoni.
Thursday: Breakfast-for-Lunch
Main: Mini pancakes or waffles (cut into strips) with greek yogurt for added protein
Sides: Banana slices or mixed berries
Tips: Add some toppings to the pancakes and waffles, different kinds of fruit or berries to sneak some extra fruit into them.
Make extra pancakes on the weekend and freeze them for quick weekday lunches.
Friday: Mini Quesadillas
Main: Cheese or chicken-and-cheese quesadilla, cut into triangles.
Sides: Corn or avocado slices + apple sauce.
Tips: Try using whole wheat tortillas for extra fiber, they crisp up perfectly in the pan.
Make it easier by making sheet pan quesadillas and freezing them in individual portions for easy lunches.
Final Thoughts
Feeding toddlers doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it’s about simple ingredients and creative presentation. If you find a few “wins,” keep them on rotation and don’t stress the picky phases. Remember, what they refuse today might be their favorite meal next week!
