What I Love Most About Being a Mom (And Why It Surprised Me)

I always knew motherhood would be hard. People warn you about the sleepless nights, the constant messes, the never-ending to-do list, and the way life completely changes after having kids. And they weren’t wrong — motherhood is hard. It’s exhausting, overwhelming, and some days leave you questioning if you’re even doing a good job.

But what no one really prepared me for was just how beautiful it is.

What I love most about being a mom isn’t just one thing — it’s a million tiny, ordinary moments that somehow feel extraordinary.

It’s the way my newborn used to scrunch up their little body after a stretch, that perfect combination of sleepy and snuggly. It’s the way their tiny hands reach up for me now, silently asking to be held, knowing I’m their safe place. It’s the smile I get every single morning when I walk into their room — the one that makes me forget how tired I am.

It’s the way their head rests on my shoulder and fits just right, like they were made for me. It’s when they start to prefer me over strangers, clinging to my neck because I am their home.

It’s the first giggle — the one that makes you laugh so hard you cry because it’s the sweetest sound you’ve ever heard.

It’s the way you watch them take their first steps — tears streaming down your face because they’re growing up so fast, and yet you’ve never been prouder.

These moments sneak up on you in the middle of the chaos and remind you that this — the late nights, the spit-up-stained shirts, the endless rocking — is worth every second.

Motherhood surprised me because I thought it would be defined by the hard parts. And yes, those parts are real. But what defines motherhood for me are these small, sacred moments that no one else gets to see but me.

And that’s what I love most about being a mom — that even though it’s hard, it’s also the best thing in the entire world.
